Two Separate Incidents in NYC: Police Shooting and Easter Sunday Homicide Charges

Two separate violent incidents occurred in New York City, according to police reports released Monday.
In Manhattan, police shot a man who allegedly advanced toward officers while wielding a 13-inch kitchen knife outside a grocery store. The New York Police Department confirmed the shooting but did not immediately release details about the suspect's condition or the circumstances leading to the confrontation.
In a separate case, authorities charged Michael Mendoza Cardona, a 24-year-old Honduran national, in connection with a fatal Easter Sunday shooting in Cypress Hills. Cardona faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
The Easter Sunday incident occurred on a sidewalk in the Cypress Hills neighborhood. Police have not released additional details about the circumstances of that shooting or the identity of the victim.
Both incidents remain under investigation by the NYPD.
