Microsoft Removes Copilot Buttons from Windows 11 Apps
Microsoft begins removing dedicated Copilot buttons from Windows 11 applications, replacing them with alternative menu options.

Microsoft has begun removing dedicated Copilot buttons from several Windows 11 applications, replacing the AI assistant access with alternative menu structures.
In the latest version of the Notepad app available to Windows Insiders, Microsoft has eliminated the standalone Copilot button and replaced it with a "writing tools" menu. The company has also removed the Copilot button from the Snipping Tool app, which previously appeared when users selected an area for capture.
The changes represent Microsoft's effort to streamline what the company describes as "unnecessary" button placements across its application suite. Rather than providing direct one-click access to Copilot functionality, users will now need to navigate through menu options to access AI-powered features.
The modifications are currently rolling out to Windows Insider participants, who receive early access to upcoming Windows features and updates. Microsoft has not announced a timeline for when these changes will reach general Windows 11 users.
The button removals come as Microsoft continues to refine the integration of its Copilot AI assistant across its software ecosystem. The company first introduced Copilot buttons to various Windows applications as part of its broader push to incorporate artificial intelligence features throughout its product lineup.
