Michigan man arrested in Bahamas after wife disappears from boat
Brian Hooker was arrested after reporting his wife Lynette fell overboard from their motorboat in the Bahamas, with investigations ongoing.

A Michigan man was arrested in the Bahamas after reporting that his wife fell overboard from their small motorboat, according to police and his attorney. Brian Hooker told authorities that his wife Lynette, 55, disappeared Saturday night while the couple was traveling between Hope Town and Elbow Cay in the eastern Bahamas.
According to police statements, Brian Hooker said his wife had the boat's keys when she fell overboard and the engine shut off. He reported that strong currents carried her away and he lost sight of her. Hooker paddled to shore and alerted others early Sunday morning, authorities said. Police arrested and questioned him Wednesday.
Hooker's attorney, Terrel Butler, said his client denies any wrongdoing and has been cooperating with law enforcement. Butler also revealed that Hooker himself fell overboard the night of his arrest and injured his knee. The U.S. Coast Guard has opened a separate investigation from the one being conducted by Bahamas authorities.
The couple from Onsted, Michigan, had been documenting their sailing adventures on social media through their "Sailing Hookers" Facebook page. Videos showed them working on their sailboat "Soul Mate" and traveling through the Caribbean over several years. In a March 2023 video, they documented leaving Kemah, Texas, to begin their Gulf crossing.
Lynette's daughter, Karli Aylesworth, told media outlets it was unlikely her mother would "just fall" from a boat. Family members described Lynette as experienced around water, having grown up near lakes and boats. However, the couple had a documented history of domestic disputes, including a 2015 incident in Michigan where both accused each other of assault, resulting in Lynette's arrest though charges were not pursued.
The search for Lynette Hooker continues as both Bahamian and U.S. authorities investigate the circumstances of her disappearance.
