Two U.S. senators have publicly criticized Yale University's decision to host controversial Twitch streamer Hasan Piker at a campus event, though they cited different concerns about his past statements.

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., called on President Donald Trump to revoke Yale's federal funding in response to the planned event featuring Piker. Scott's objection appears to stem from previous statements by the streamer regarding the senator.

Separately, Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., criticized Piker for what she described as derogatory remarks about Orthodox Jews and his previous suggestion that America deserved the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Slotkin questioned what "normal" person would appear on what she characterized as an antagonistic show.

Piker, known for his left-leaning political commentary on Twitch, has previously made controversial statements that have drawn criticism from various political figures. The streamer has built a significant following on the gaming platform through his political commentary and reaction content.

The criticism from both Republican and Democratic senators represents an unusual bipartisan response to a university speaker selection. Yale University has not immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the senators' statements about the planned event.
