Microsoft announced it will discontinue its Outlook Lite application next month, ending support for the streamlined email client designed for resource-constrained devices.

Outlook Lite was launched in 2022 as a lightweight alternative to the standard Outlook mobile app. The application was specifically developed for Android smartphones with limited storage capacity and users in regions with slower internet connections.

The app offered core email functionality while requiring significantly less device storage and data usage compared to the full Outlook application. This made it particularly useful for users with older devices or those operating in areas with limited internet infrastructure.

Microsoft had previously indicated that the application was scheduled for retirement, suggesting the discontinuation was part of a planned product lifecycle rather than an unexpected shutdown. The company has not announced a direct replacement for the lightweight email solution.

Users of Outlook Lite will need to transition to alternative email applications or upgrade to the standard Outlook app if their devices can accommodate the increased resource requirements.
