Spotify Adds Physical Book Purchases as Streaming Devices See Updates
Spotify launches physical book purchasing in US and UK while Amazon and Walmart update streaming devices with new features.
Spotify has introduced the ability for users to purchase physical books through its platform in the United States and United Kingdom. The feature is currently available on Android devices through an integration with Bookshop.org, with iOS support expected to roll out next week. The move represents an expansion of Spotify's book-related offerings beyond its existing audiobook services.
Meanwhile, Amazon announced updates to its streaming device lineup on Wednesday, unveiling a new Fire TV Stick HD that the company describes as its slimmest streaming device to date. Priced at $34.99, the updated device is 30 percent thinner than its predecessor and can be powered directly through a TV's USB port, eliminating the need for a separate power adapter. Amazon also opened preorders for its new Ember Artline televisions.
Walmart is also updating its streaming hardware offerings with a new version of its Onn 4K Pro streaming box. The updated device, which originally debuted in May 2024, will include support for Google's Gemini AI assistant and Matter smart home connectivity standards. The product listing appeared on Walmart's website showing availability in select locations.
In the broader streaming landscape, HBO Max expanded its international presence by launching in India through an exclusive partnership with JioHotstar. The service will be available as an add-on for JioHotstar subscribers starting at ₹49 (approximately $0.50) per month, offering content from HBO, Max Originals, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Studios.
These developments reflect ongoing competition and expansion efforts across the digital entertainment and technology sectors, as companies seek to diversify their offerings and capture new market segments.
