Detainees at the Camp East Montana facility in west Texas have described challenging living conditions at the tent-based immigration detention center. Former detainees report issues including dust accumulation throughout the facility, extreme air conditioning that creates very cold temperatures inside the tents despite warm outdoor weather, and water leakage during rain that left sleeping areas wet.

The facility, described as sprawling, houses detainees in tent structures that extend significant distances and relies on large generators for power. Venezuelan national identified as 'D' provided details about the conditions during his detention at the facility.

Separately, ICE has reduced the amount of detail it makes public regarding deaths that occur while immigrants are in custody, even as the number of such deaths has reached record levels. The agency's decreased transparency comes at a time when oversight groups and lawmakers have called for greater accountability regarding detention conditions.
