Authorities in Washington state have confirmed that skeletal remains discovered by hikers belong to Hailey Athay, a 33-year-old woman who disappeared in late 2024.

Two hikers found the remains in a remote area of Rose Valley in Kelso, Washington on Sunday. The discovery came more than a year after Athay was reported missing.

According to reports, Athay was last known to be picking mushrooms with an unidentified man before Thanksgiving 2024. She was described as a mother of three children.

The remains were located in a wooded area, and authorities used identification methods to confirm the identity as Athay. The case had remained unsolved since her disappearance nearly a year and a half ago.

Local authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding her death or the ongoing investigation. The discovery provides some closure to a missing person case that had remained open since late 2024.
