The United States military seized an Iranian-flagged container ship near the Strait of Hormuz after the vessel attempted to bypass a U.S. naval blockade, President Donald Trump announced Sunday on social media.

Trump said the cargo ship named Touska tried to get past the American blockade and "it did not go well for them." The president stated that U.S. forces "blew a hole in its engine room" during the operation in the Gulf of Oman region.

The incident comes as the U.S. and Iran prepare for a second round of negotiations, with talks scheduled to take place in Islamabad, Pakistan. The seizure occurred amid ongoing tensions over Iranian control of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil shipments pass.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said Sunday that "all options are on the table" regarding efforts to limit Iran's control over the strait and the economic benefits tied to the shipping channel. When asked about potential U.S. actions against vessels headed to China, Waltz declined to provide specifics.

Tehran has not yet commented on the reported seizure. A senior Iranian politician recently told the BBC that Iran "will never cede control" of the Strait of Hormuz and that the country "will decide the right of passage" through the waterway.

The announcement comes as Trump has threatened further military action against Iranian infrastructure if Iran does not accept what he termed a "very fair and reasonable" peace deal proposed by his administration.
