A 38-year-old Brazilian triathlete died Saturday during an Ironman competition in Texas after disappearing during the swimming portion of the race.

Mara Flavia Araujo went missing while competing in the triathlon at Lake Woodlands on the outskirts of Houston. Her body was recovered from the lake at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

According to reports, Araujo had been missing for roughly three hours before being found. Her body was located approximately 10 feet below the surface of the lake.

Araujo was described as an influencer and triathlete who participated in endurance sports competitions. The incident occurred during the swimming segment of the Ironman event, which typically begins with a long-distance swim followed by cycling and running portions.

The circumstances surrounding her disappearance during the race remain under investigation. Ironman competitions are grueling endurance events that attract athletes from around the world to compete in the multi-stage races.
