Michigan Democrats Select Controversial Candidate; Emanuel Shifts Position on Israel Aid
Michigan Democrats chose Amir Makled despite his controversial social media posts, while Rahm Emanuel calls for ending U.S. military aid to Israel.

Michigan Democrats have selected Amir Makled for an undisclosed position despite controversy surrounding his social media activity, according to reports. Makled previously shared posts containing inflammatory language about Jewish people and expressed support for designated terrorist organizations.
In deleted social media posts, Makled retweeted content from commentator Candace Owens that described Israelis using derogatory terms and accused them of various crimes. He also shared a post mourning the death of Hassan Nasrallah, the former Hezbollah leader who was killed in an Israeli airstrike, referring to him as a martyr.
Separately, former Obama White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has taken a new stance on U.S.-Israel relations, calling for an end to American military aid to Israel. Emanuel, who previously served as Chicago mayor and is currently U.S. Ambassador to Japan, is considered a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
The developments reflect ongoing tensions within Democratic circles regarding Middle East policy and candidate vetting processes. Emanuel's position represents a significant shift from traditional Democratic support for Israel military assistance.
Neither Makled nor Emanuel's representatives immediately responded to requests for comment about the respective controversies and policy positions.
