Rep. Analilia Mejia (D-N.J.) was officially sworn in Monday to represent New Jersey's 11th Congressional District, taking the seat previously held by Gov. Mikie Sherrill.

Mejia won the special election last week, defeating Republican challenger Joe Hathaway. The victory was described as decisive, though specific vote totals were not immediately provided.

The new representative previously served as a top aide to Sen. Bernie Sanders's 2020 presidential campaign. Her swearing-in adds another Democratic member to the House of Representatives.
