Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) filed a defamation lawsuit Wednesday against his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, over allegations that he physically abused her during their marriage.

Moreno is the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio). Miller and Emily Moreno filed for divorce in August 2024 and have been engaged in a custody battle over their young daughter.

According to court documents, Miller alleges that his ex-wife made false accusations of domestic violence against him. The lawsuit also names Moreno's attorney as a defendant.

In the filing, Miller claims the allegations were designed to damage his reputation, harm his chances for re-election to Congress, and falsely portray him as an abusive father and husband.

The defamation suit comes as the former couple continues their legal dispute over custody arrangements for their child. The case adds another layer of complexity to what was already a contentious divorce proceeding between the two parties.

Neither Emily Moreno nor her legal representatives have publicly responded to the defamation lawsuit filed by the Ohio congressman.
