A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck south China's Guangxi region early Monday morning, killing two people and injuring four others, according to state media reports.

The quake prompted authorities to evacuate more than 7,000 residents from Liuzhou city as a precautionary measure. Search and rescue operations concluded around midday Monday when the last trapped person, a 91-year-old man, was found alive and in good condition.

At least 13 buildings collapsed due to the earthquake, while landslides triggered by the tremor blocked roads leading to the affected area. State broadcaster CCTV aired footage showing excavators working to clear debris from damaged structures.

The earthquake also disrupted transportation in the region, with train services around Liuzhou either canceled or delayed due to safety concerns.

Earthquakes occur periodically in southern China, though more intense seismic activity typically happens in the mountainous western regions or toward Taiwan in the east. The most devastating recent earthquake in China was a 7.9 magnitude tremor that struck Sichuan province in 2008, which left more than 87,000 people dead or missing.
