A Chinese pro-democracy activist and a China expert have issued warnings about continued Chinese intelligence operations in the United States, following recent espionage-related legal developments.

Yan Xiong, a pro-democracy activist from China who describes himself as a victim of Chinese spy networks operating in New York City, commented on the conviction of an individual identified as Harry Lu in connection with espionage activities. Xiong warned that China's government will continue deploying intelligence operatives internationally despite legal setbacks.

Separately, Gordon Chang, who analyzes Chinese affairs, described what he characterizes as "unrestricted warfare" by China against the United States. Chang cited multiple areas of concern including the fentanyl crisis, espionage activities, drone operations, and what he termed biological weapons threats.

The comments come amid heightened scrutiny of Chinese intelligence operations on American soil. U.S. law enforcement agencies have prosecuted several cases in recent years involving alleged Chinese espionage activities targeting various sectors including technology, academia, and political dissidents.

Both Xiong and Chang suggested that Chinese intelligence operations extend beyond traditional espionage to include influence campaigns targeting Chinese-American communities and pro-democracy activists living in the United States.

The warnings reflect broader concerns among U.S. officials about Chinese intelligence gathering and influence operations, which have become a significant focus of American counterintelligence efforts in recent years.
