Rights Groups Warn Visitors About US Immigration Enforcement During World Cup
Human rights organizations issue travel advisory citing concerns about Trump administration immigration policies affecting foreign visitors to the United States.

Amnesty International and the American Civil Liberties Union issued a travel warning Thursday advising foreign citizens about potential risks when traveling to the United States during the FIFA World Cup due to the Trump administration's immigration enforcement policies.
The two organizations joined approximately 120 human rights groups in cautioning that fans, players, journalists and other visitors could face heightened scrutiny from immigration officials. The warning reflects broader concerns about the administration's approach to immigration enforcement and its potential impact on international visitors.
Separately, new guidance issued to immigration officers by the Trump administration describes participation in pro-Palestinian protests and criticism of Israel as "overwhelmingly negative" factors when evaluating green card applications. The guidance represents a shift in how immigration officials assess applicants' political activities and viewpoints during the naturalization process.
The warnings come as Republican-controlled state legislatures have also moved to tighten immigration policies. Tennessee's Republican supermajority recently approved a series of immigration bills that were developed in coordination with the White House, adding to the patchwork of state and federal immigration measures.
The travel advisory marks an unusual step by major human rights organizations, which typically reserve such warnings for countries with severe human rights violations or significant safety concerns for international visitors.
