Game Developers at Wizards of the Coast Announce Unionization Effort
Workers at Hasbro subsidiary Wizards of the Coast seek to join Communications Workers of America union.

Game developers at Wizards of the Coast, the Hasbro subsidiary behind Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, announced Monday their intention to unionize with the Communications Workers of America.
The workers cited concerns about artificial intelligence implementation and layoff protections as key factors driving their unionization effort. Wizards of the Coast develops both digital and tabletop versions of the popular card game Magic: The Gathering as well as the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons.
The Communications Workers of America has been actively organizing workers in the technology and video game sectors in recent years. The union has successfully organized thousands of workers across the tech industry, establishing a significant presence in the gaming sector.
In 2024, the CWA achieved a major milestone by certifying the largest union in the U.S. video game industry, representing 600 quality assurance workers at Activision. This unionization effort at Wizards of the Coast represents the latest in a series of organizing campaigns within the gaming industry.
The announcement comes as workers across the technology sector have increasingly sought union representation amid concerns about job security and workplace conditions. The outcome of this unionization effort could have implications for other subsidiaries within Hasbro and the broader gaming industry.
